Orders that have to keep moving

At Comcast I lead the Voice Management System for new, amendment, and MACD voice orders. The work runs from the written design through production diagnosis and the handoff through QA and deployment.

Store planning and inventory at Lowe’s, including a 2D store view. The work ran from the requirement and the customer conversation through the application, testing, and production support.

Lowe’s
June 2018 – August 2021

Technical lead

Voice Management System and Commercial Service Platform at Comcast. Order applications, the screens those orders use, and the middleware they depend on. Design, performance, deployment, and offshore coordination sat in the same role.

What a client actually gets

Design

A design you can review

HLD and detailed design

Service interactions, data flow, and exception handling written down before the code spreads.

Build

A service that deploys

From the requirement

An application or service taken from what you asked for to something the team can ship and support.

Proof

Tests around the change

Tests and review

Unit tests, BDD where the behavior is the contract, and a review of the code that is about to go out.

2014

ITIL Foundation

Certification

The service view of production: find the cause, fix it, and leave an operational trail.

Rescue

A production system steadied

Kibana, Splunk, AppDynamics

Defect analysis, root cause, and a performance change that the current release can absorb.

Lead

A short stretch of leadership

Reviews and mentoring

Design, planning, code review, and mentoring when the team needs a lead more than another pair of hands.

About Me

I am a technologist with 15+ years of taking a requirement from analysis through an application people can run.

Clients hire me when they need the application the requirement describes: a new product, a change to a system that is already live, or a rescue when something in production is wrong. I have done that work in telecom, banking, retail, logistics, payments, healthcare, and automotive.

Alongside the enterprise work I design and ship products communities use every week: cagusa.org, carolinasayyappa.org, the CAG Bhajans app, and the CAG Roots app. The same habits apply. A requirement becomes a design, the design becomes the application, and the application is tested before it is called done.

I am based in Charlotte, NC, and I take remote freelance and contract engagements: a defined project, an enhancement, a rescue, or ongoing delivery against the requirement you bring.

My Services

Six ways a team usually brings me in. Each one ends with something you can run, review, or ship.

API build

A new API or server, from a written requirement to a deployable service, including the data model and the error paths.

Start a build

Production rescue

Defect analysis, root cause, and performance work on an application that is already live. I stay until the failure is explained and the fix is in.

Describe the incident

Legacy modernization

An older application moved onto a clearer shape, with tests and a path that does not require a freeze of the business.

See the approach

Data and API integration

Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, stored procedures, and the front end that has to call the service.

Talk through the systems

Design and review

High-level design, API design, a data-flow write-up, or a code review that leaves the team with a list it can act on.

Request a review

Short-term leadership

A few weeks or months of design, planning, reviews, and mentoring while the team keeps shipping.

How a project starts

CAG Bhajans

Ship a product people open every week

CAG Bhajans is the clearest example. The community needed to find a bhajan, read the lyric, see the raga, play the audio, and learn the ones with a tutorial track. The app holds more than 3,600 songs. cagusa.org and carolinasayyappa.org are that same kind of work on the web.

CAG Roots

Keep the API, change the surface

CAG Roots keeps the existing services as the system of record. Attendance, roles, and monthly bhajan registration keep their rules. One application covers the phone and the web.

Enterprise delivery

Enterprise work, from design to the incident

Voice orders at Comcast, account opening at Wells Fargo, and store planning at Lowe’s. The design, the application, the tests, and the production diagnosis when the live system disagrees with the design.
